About To Take Handover? Make Sure You’re Ready To Go With A Practical Completion Inspection.

If you’ve just finished building a new home, you want to feel confident that it’s safe to move into. A practical completion inspection is a vital part of the construction and building process that will allow you to move into your new home with confidence. During the inspection, our highly-skilled building inspectors will conduct a review of all the construction work and do an extensive check to ensure the home building process has been appropriately undertaken.

Once the inspection has been completed, we will email you a comprehensive report within 24 hours (usually same day). The detailed report will describe all of the building work that has been checked over and outline any minor defects or building code compliance issues that need to be addressed with your builder, such as issues with window glass, cupboard doors, power points, hot and cold water, or most importantly, the structure of the home in general. If you have any further questions about your inspection report or want to discuss anything with your inspector, they will also be available for phone consultation after the inspection.

While you may trust and have a good relationship with your builder or building company, a thorough inspection by an independent building inspector before the end of the building contract is a crucial part of the process. This helps in making sure all work satisfies the relevant Australian Standards and National Construction Code, to ensure safety for you and your family when you move into your new home.

Less experienced inspectors may not be equipped to perform thorough building inspections or ensure that construction work has been undertaken in a satisfactory manner. That's why it's important to work with the experts when it comes to a practical completion inspection. BestWest Building is a family-owned and operated company that has been providing independent building inspections and pest inspections from a Perth base since 2010, backed by a wealth of industry experience. Our entire team of Perth building inspectors are customer focussed and strive to ensure they provide industry-leading practical completion inspections. Practical Completion Inspection Perth FAQs

A Practical Completion Inspection is completed very close to the end of the build and is the first step towards your home being completed and getting your keys! Although this is a very exciting stage of construction, you won’t want to forget about significant defects being noted and rectified. During our Practical Completion Inspection, we go through the home with a fine toothed comb to review all of the visible building elements on the interior and exterior of the home. This includes the floor, internal & external walls, ceilings, cornices, doors, windows, garage, fences, roof frame and the list goes on and on. This is usually a very detailed inspection and report which raises the bar and ensures your home is structurally sound and has a high quality of finish. It is common to refer to the last 5% of the build as the most important as this is what you as the owner will be living with.

Do we have a Practical Completion checklist?

We do not use a ‘practical completion checklist’ as we believe this can lead to focusing too much of a box ticking exercise instead of meticulously going through the home. We take the time required to inspect every inch of the home , paying close attention to the details and providing the highest level of service. If we used a practical completion checklist we would just be focused on going through that and may not notice other defects that are outside of the checklist parameters.
